Install ModelBrain on Windows

Download the installer that matches your machine, run it, click through one expected security warning. No account, no admin rights, nothing it does touches the network beyond a one-time model download. Windows 10/11, x64 and ARM64.

Steps
  1. Download the installer for your CPU. Get ModelBrain-Setup-x64.exe (ordinary Intel/AMD machines) or ModelBrain-Setup-arm64.exe (Windows-on-ARM) from the download page, which also has the current file's SHA-256 if you want to verify it yourself.
  2. Run the installer. Windows will show "Windows protected your PC" — this is SmartScreen, and it's expected: ModelBrain isn't code-signed for this release yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Finish the install. It installs for your user only — no administrator prompt. When it's done, a ModelBrain icon appears in your system tray; that's the running app.
  4. That's it. Next: connect it to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor, then follow the quickstart.
Where things live
Your vault

%LOCALAPPDATA%\ModelBrain\data — ordinary files on your disk, deliberately outside your roaming profile since it can hold gigabytes of model weights. modelbrain config prints the exact path.

The app itself

Installed under your local app data, not Program Files. It registers itself with Claude Desktop automatically every time it starts — see connecting Claude Desktop.

Questions

Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?

ModelBrain isn't code-signed yet for this release, a paid step being deliberately skipped for now. The warning is expected: click "More info", then "Run anyway". If you want to verify the file yourself first, its SHA-256 is on the download page.

Does it need administrator rights to install?

No. It installs per-user, into your own local app data, with no admin prompt.

Which Windows versions and CPUs are supported?

Windows 10 and 11, both ordinary x64 machines and Windows-on-ARM (ARM64) devices. Pick the installer that matches your machine on the download page.
