A bookmark folder is a decision about what belongs together, so ModelBrain keeps each folder as one memory instead of one line per link. The bookmarks source reads your browser's bookmark store and indexes each bookmark folder as one memory in a partition called Bookmarks. The folder path is the heading, followed by the title and address of each link. It never visits a link. Available from ModelBrain 0.6.6.
Bookmarks (Chrome, Edge), places.sqlite (Firefox) or Bookmarks.plist (Safari). From a terminal, connector_sync register <id> <path> --type bookmarks does the same. For example: connector_sync register marks ~/path/to/profile --type bookmarks.
Bookmarks in a profile folder.places.sqlite. Firefox keeps it locked, so ModelBrain copies it (and its write-ahead file when present) to a temporary folder and reads the copy. The original is never opened.Bookmarks.plist, binary or XML.place:.A bookmark store over 256 MiB is refused instead of being copied or parsed. A member over 32 MiB is refused too. Both are recorded as failures. A store that cannot be parsed keeps the members already indexed from it.
ModelBrain removes a member from memory only after it has read its container to the end. If a file cannot be parsed, every member already indexed from it stays put until the next good pass.
This source is hidden from relay callers. Anything that reaches ModelBrain through the hosted relay, which is how ChatGPT and Grok connect, cannot see what this source imported unless you add its partition (and the partition of any other source of the same kind) to that connection's allowlist yourself. Bookmarks reveal what you read and shop for, so this is the default.
kind, members, members_failed and last_container_bytes.The folder you picked has none of the three file names above. In Chrome, the file sits inside the profile folder, for example one named Default.
Browsers write the file when they decide to, not when you click. Close the browser or wait, then the next pass picks it up.
Open the ModelBrain menu, choose Vaults, then Add Source, then Browser bookmarks, and pick the folder that holds your browser's bookmarks file. Available from ModelBrain 0.6.6.
Chrome and Edge through the Bookmarks file, Firefox through places.sqlite, and Safari through Bookmarks.plist.
No. Nothing is fetched from the network. A memory holds only folder names, link titles and addresses.
No. Firefox's database is copied to a temporary folder and read from the copy. The other stores are only read.
Each new source kind has its own page.
