Docs / Teams
Teams lets a group share one or more partitions: everyone with access remembers into it and recalls from it, from their own assistants. The rest of each person's memory stays private. Shared partitions are end-to-end encrypted with their own keys, held only by members' computers.
You need a ModelBrain account with sync set up on at least one computer (Your ModelBrain account). Open Account… in the ModelBrain menu, find Teams, type a name and choose Start an organization. You are its owner.
Members, invitations, billing, single sign-on and the audit log are on the organization's page, reached from your account page.
Approving happens in the app, not the website, because it is what lets their computers receive keys. Nothing done on the website alone can give anyone access to a memory.
In the app's Teams section, type the name of one of your partitions and choose Share it. ModelBrain makes a new key for that partition on your computer, uploads an encrypted copy of what is in it, and from then on keeps that partition out of your personal sync.
Then give people access with the drop-down next to each member: read to recall from it, write to also remember into it and forget from it. Their computers pick it up on the next sync, within a few minutes. Members see it as an ordinary partition in their assistants.
Another member can only change memories inside the shared partition, never anything else on your computer, and only if they have write access.
Access is per partition, not per memory: the server never looks inside a memory, so it can't decide anything finer.
Choose Remove on the organization's page, or Remove access for one partition. It takes effect at once on our servers. The partition then gets a new key the next time someone with write access syncs, so nothing written after that reaches them. What they already had stays on their computers.
A removal made on the web also shows in the ModelBrain app of each owner and admin. One of them confirms it there, which signs it into the organization's history. Our servers can't do that on their own, so they can never put a removal in that history in your name.
If someone is given access again later, the partition doesn't start syncing to their computer by itself, since whatever they wrote there in the meantime is private. They choose Sync it here in the app. A reader's copy is read-only.
The same happens on its own when one of a member's computers is removed: that computer knew the old key, so the partition gets a new one.
An owner can have members sign in through the company's identity provider (OpenID Connect: Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra, Okta). First prove the domain with a DNS TXT record the page gives you, then enter the provider's issuer, client ID and secret, and register https://api.modelbrain.net/v1/auth/sso/callback as the redirect URI.
It applies to members whose address is in that domain. Signing in through the provider proves who someone is and nothing more: computers are still approved with six words and keys still never leave members' computers, so a compromised provider could start sessions but could not read anything.
Owners and admins see invitations, approvals, role and access changes, key changes, billing and single sign-on events on the organization's page, for 400 days, and can download them as a CSV. It never contains the content of anyone's memories.
Teams is billed per node: every computer of every active member. It is $6 a month per node billed yearly, or $8 monthly, and $4 a month past 25 nodes on either plan, plus $0.05 per GB a month for the shared partitions' storage. The owner's account pays from the organization's page. Members don't need a plan of their own; a member who also wants personal sync between their own computers subscribes to that separately.
Cancelling works like a personal plan: everything works until the end of the paid period, then shared partitions are read-only for 30 days, then their encrypted copies are deleted from our servers. Everyone keeps what is on their computers. Deleting the organization stops billing and deletes its shared data after 14 days, which can be undone until then.
No. Joining an organization only lets it share partitions with you. Your personal memories stay in your own encrypted sync, which no one else, including the organization and ModelBrain, can read.
No. Each shared partition has its own key, made on a member's computer and handed only to members with access, wrapped so that only their computers can open it. Our servers store encrypted data and see partition names, sizes and who has access, never memories.
Their access ends at once. The partition gets a new key the next time someone with write access syncs, so nothing written after that reaches them. What they already had stays on their computers, as with any shared document.
